Intrinsic-schminzic (Family Organizers Part II)
I believe intrinsic motivation is a wonderful thing. In this house I try and harness the power of intrinsic motivation as much as possible. Unfortunately, that tends to mean if it isn’t on an ipod or Mac, it’s not within the sphere of influence. Also, in computer land, it’s very easy to get caught up and the next thing you know three weeks have gone by and no laundry has been done (I do exaggerate slightly here for literary purposes). Some boring old chores have to be done on a regular basis and anything that helps us get into that groove around here is welcomed with open arms.
So although I haven’t adopted any of the whizzie-woo-woo family organizers, we have fully embraced Goal For It. Although Goal For It has some great social networking type features, it’s the ability to set up customizable kid’s goal charts that makes this so brilliant. You can choose from a selection of charts and stickers to create each chart. The rewards or ‘moolah” are entirely up to you to determine the number of points and the reward. I’m very impressed with the fact that you can choose which days tasks need to be completed and configure the points value for each task. So far the kid’s have really enjoyed coming and choosing virtual stickers to go on their charts. It’s helped all of us stay on track on a daily basis.
Ok, I confess that I have even made myself up a sticker chart as well. There’s something very satisfying about rewarding yourself with a big yellow smiley face 
or princess crown. It satisfies the inner brat in us all. There are plenty of other good features for adults on the site . You can set up adult style goals and track daily progress. You can journal and network with other people who share the same goals, if you need to get all serious about it. And best of it, it’s free.
